Angry Young Men’ is the story of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, two of the greatest screenwriters of Hindi cinema of the 1970’s. They were the first creators of the bound script in India, in a Country that made its first film at the turn of the 20th century. They were the forerunners and creators of the ‘Angry Young Man’ archetype in a voice that was uniquely Indian, rooted in the social and political circumstances of a changing India. They wrote 24 films, out of which 20 were blockbusters, the writing was powerful and remains alive and well to this day today, deeply entrenched in the cultural DNA of India. Their break-up made headlines for many years and Indian cinema never saw a cultural collaboration as powerful again. AYM explores the lives and works of these two legends.
